Athletes require different nutrition. The timing, the composition, the nutrients, they matter. Unfortunately, it's common that coaches and trainers either neglect to talk about it or worst, give inaccurate nutrition information lacking in scientific evidence.

I have a special space in my heart to work with athletes, and their coaches! Often times you are training like an athlete, but not eating like one. As a competitive cross country and track athlete, I was personally told to "stay away from BBQ's and excess sugar" (whatever that means). I respected my coaches and took this to heart. This lack of nutrition education and following diet trends my peers were doing led to years of suffering from symptoms of Relative Energy Deficiency Syndrome (RED-S).
